SALIENT FEATURES OF THE KONASEEMA DISTRICT
1. Natural Background & Boundaries
Konaseema district which is newly formed has boundary with East Godavari on the north and West Godavari on the south. They are covered by East Godavari and Kakinada Districts on north and bay of Bengal in the south.
2.Demographic particulars
There are 2 Revenue Divisions with Head Quarters at, Ramachandrapuram, Amalapuram. The District consists of 22 Revenue Mandals and 22 Mandal Parishads. 385 Gram Panchayats exist in the District.
There are 3 Municipalities Ramachandrapuram, Mandapeta and Amalapuram, one Nagar Panchayat i.e., Mummidivaram
As per 2011 Census, this district having 313 inhabited villages, 1 un-inhabited village. Total population is 17.19 lakhs and the Geographical area is 2081 Sq. Kms. The density of Population is 826 per Sq. Km. The District literacy rate is 79.17 %. A large section of the working population depends upon Agriculture for their livelihood. As per 2011 Census the population of scheduled castes 4.27 lakhs and that of Scheduled Tribes 0.13 lakhs.
3.Land Utilization:
The total Geographical area of the District is 2.081 Lakh Hect. During 2019-20 the area covered by Forest is 0.015 Lakh Hects., which forms 0.75 % to the total geographical area. The rest is distributed among Barren and uncultivable land about 3.79% and Land put to Non-agricultural uses about 19.07%. The Net area Sown is 1.34 Lakh Hects., forming 64.32% to the total geographical area. The total cropped area in the district is 2.34 Lakh Hects. The area sown more than once is 1.00 Lakh Hects.
4.Natural Resources
a) Rivers
The Principal River flowing in the District is Godavari
b) Soils
The main soil in the district are alluvial (Clay loamy) The soils are the mostly alluvial in Godavari Delta area. Sandy Clay at tail end portions of Godavari.
c) Minerals
There is a Crude Oil & Natural Gas are the important major minerals and Road Metal, Gravel and Colour Granite are the Minor Minerals available in the District.
d) Climate and Rainfall
The climate is comparatively equitable and although it is very warm in May with a maximum temperature of 38.90c and with a minimum temperature of 19.90c in the month of January.
The actual Rainfall received is 1011.7 m.m. as against the normal rainfall 1295.0 m.m. from June 2019 to May 2020. The % of deviation over normal is below -21.9%. More than half of the Annual rainfall 619.1 m.m. covered during South West Monsoon period from June to September while the large portion of the rest i.e. 332.5 m.m. received during the North East Monsoon period i.e. from October to December 2019.
5. Developmental Activities
a) Agriculture
The net area cultivated during 2019-20 is 144994 Hec. including fish ponds which accounting 69.67 % of the total Geographical area of the district.
b) Irrigation
The Godavari canal is irrigation source in the District.
c) Education
There are 1420 Primary Schools, 292 Upper Primary Schools, 413 High Schools are functioning in the districts under different Managements. 3610 Teachers working in Primary School, 1833 working in the UP School and 4560 Teachers in High Schools. There are 75 Junior colleges employing 949 Lecturers. Enrolment is 74258 in Elementary Schools, 28467 in U.P. Schools and 109599 in High Schools.
d) Industries, SEZs
Fertilizers & Paper are the large and medium scale industries in the district. There are small-scale industries like agro-based industries, chemical, Food, Paper based etc. In the private sector there are 3 Paper and Paper products manufacturing units in the district besides others
There are 16 large and medium scale industries existing in Konaseema District. They are functioning with a total investment of Rs. 195037 lakhs duly employing 2536 workers. 230 Small Scale industries existing with 1317 workers employeed.
A total number of 371 factories are functioning which are registered under factories act, 1948 and there are 10930 workers employed in them comprising 8548 Male and 2382 Female workers. Under cottage industries 24 units are being operated with 224 workers during 2019-20.
6. Transport and Communications
The District is served by Rail line (Broad guage) which is from Kakinada to Kotipalli covering a distance of 45 Km. People have to depend upon Road Transport. All most all the places in the District are connected well laid roads with the construction of the bridges across River Godavari at Alamuru and Siddantham. The movement of passengers and Transport of goods to several parts of the State have become easy. Agricultural commodities like Coconut and other marketing goods are carried through water transport system. Yanam – Yedurulanka Bridge on the River Godavari named as Balayogi Varadhi was opened in 2002 connecting Konaseema area to District Head Quarters.
National Highways i.e. NH 16 are passing through this district with a length of 57.5 Kms. One Air Port also exists in Rajahmundry which is nearer to Amalapuram.
a)Economy
The economy of Konaseema District is mainly agriculture based like Paddy, Banana and Coconut apart from Aquaculture related to shrimps, black tiger prawns, Crabs and fishes, Poultry farms and export of aqua products.
b) Politics
YSR Congress, TDP, Indian National Congress, CPI, CPI(M), BJP and B.S.P., Loksatta, and Jana Sena are having their presence in the Konaseema District. In Konaseema District there are 7 Assembly Constituencies and one Parliamentary Constituencies.
c) Places of interest
The religious temples of Ryali, Anthervedi, Muramalla, Vadapalli, Mandapalli, Ainavilli, Dwarapudi, Appanapalli, Draksharama are some of the important religious places in the District.
d) Archeological Monuments
Jaganmohini Kesavaswamy Temple at Ryali and Dutch Tomb at Draksharama are some of the Archeological Monuments and Historical Places in the District. Drakashrama is the witness to the culture of Chalukshya dynasty.
c) Medical and Health
A total of 45 Primary Health Centers, Mobile Medical units and Dispensaries are existing in the District. There are as many as 553 beds available in the hospitals duly managed by 65 Doctors.
There are 9 Ayurvedic, 11 Homeopathy & 3 Naturopathy hospitals in the District.
d) Animal Husbandry
The total Live Stock Population is 3.27 lakhs. Out of them 0.63 lakhs Cattle, 1.79 lakhs Buffaloes, 0.28 lakhs sheep, and 0.30 goats as per Livestock Census 2012.
e) Banking
There are 253 Bank Branches in the Konaseema District, out of them 213 are Nationalised, 24 Co-Operative
